We have just opened the registration for WordCamp Philippines 2010.

This year, the registration fee is Php700.  This entitles you to a ticket to the event, a WordCamp Philippines 2010 kit, lunch and coffee, and a campers’ shirt.

But as a bonus, we are giving a discount for those who will register and pay on or before August 15, 2010.  We are slashing a couple of hundred pesos off the registration fee so for Php500 (or US$12 for payments via PayPal), you’ll be able to participate in the coolest gathering of tech-savvy professionals in the country.

Remember, WordCamp Philippines 2010 is happening on October 2, 2010. Register HERE to secure a spot to the best WordCamp Philippines yet.

i have a question though (kinda offtopic). I was actually tracking kasi wordcamp.ph since february pa for updates with regards to this topic nga and nung mga June, July na, and wala pa akong nakikitang updates, I was kind of like “sigure walang wordcamp 2010″. but then yun nga iba na pala ung site without prior notice man lang dun sa old site.

Anyways why did you decide to have a different domain? Is it a different organizing team or what? just curious

    Reply
    • Lyle 16 July 2010 at 2:33 PM #

The person who has control of the old domain is no longer part of the organizing team and we, the organizers, no longer have access to the old site.

The organizers this year are the same people behind WordCamp Philippines 2008 – 2009.

We are a team of 4 and we are all planning to attend this event. Wala ba group registration para isang payment na lang? Thanks,

    Reply
    • Lyle 16 July 2010 at 11:34 AM #

Hi. What you can do is register individually and pay using the same paypal account or if paying through bank, pay for all four. Just note that in your e-mail when you send the scanned deposit slip.

We didn’t allow group registrations because we needed each of your details for the badge and kits.

Isn’t 500 or 700 too much for this kind of event.. I mean I get a kit, lunch and coffee and a camper shirt for that but I noticed on the Sponsors area there is a ‘Lunch Sponsor’, ‘Snacks Sponsor’ and a ‘Shirt Sponsor’ sponsorships… just a thought…

    Reply
    • Lyle 16 July 2010 at 8:31 PM #

Hi Paul! You have a valid point. However, please note that the sponsors page lists sponsorship opportunities and not actual sponsorships.

WordCamps around the world have registration fees including those that are sponsored. The rationale for charging fees is to ensure that participants have personal investments in the event and ensure their attendance.

In 2008, WordCamp was free which resulted to 300 registrations. The organizers spent for 300 kits and provided meals for the same number. Only 180 showed up. Participants were also required to blog about the sponsors and post links on their blogs. Matt Mullenweg made it expressly known to the organizers that such practice is frowned upon.

With regard to the amount, Php500/700 was decided upon based on the feedback provided by those who responded in the WordCamp Philippines survey.

WordCamp Philippines is one of the most affordable, if not the cheapest. Most WordCamp tickets cost around $40-75.

I hope I have addressed your concerns. Looking forward to your registration. See you at WordCamp!

Hi! I’ve registered last July 24 but I haven’t paid yet. I didn’t notice the ‘pay within within 72 hours’ part. It’s July 28 already and obviously I missed the mark. I do have the intention to attend (I got 2 people coming with me) though. Should I register again or what? (I don’t want to spam you guys with registration email, that’s why I am asking)

    Thanks!

        • Lyle 30 July 2010 at 10:44 PM #

Our event venue can only accommodate 200 people so we will be limiting the number of slots to 200 participants only.

Out of the 200 slots, more than 140 have registered already. The registration page displays the actual remaining slots left.

      Hi Raven,

The entire organizing team of this event is also from Mindanao, Davao specifically. Mini WordCamps in 2008 and 2009 were also held in Davao.

This year, however, we could only afford to hold one in Manila due to budget constraints.

However, there are a lot of blogging events in Mindanao organized and sponsored by the Davao, CDO, and SoCCSKSarGen Bloggers. Our group, Avatar Media, also organizes events regularly in Davao.
